The Vampire Diaries: What the Whatting What?! (S5: E11)
The Good Stuff:
The day drinking to celebrate Katherine’s demise, in which each of them remembers a way that Katherine Pierce screwed them over. Remember when she killed me? Drink! Four bottles of bourbon later…(And Caroline admitting that she’s probably better off!)
Nadia, desperate to save her mother, hatches a plan. She kidnaps Matt and buries him alive in the woods and then demands help in saving Katherine or else Matt gets it. Of course, Damon refuses to volunteer. Of course, Elena and Stefan DO volunteer. (Those two really deserve each other.)
Damon gives Katherine sedatives so he can sneak into her mind and torture her, because he is REALLY bitter about all those years he spent trying to save her.
Nadia snaps Damon’s neck and pleads with Katherine to use her body, so she can live. As Damon comes to, Katherine gives a touching speech about having lived for five hundred years, and encourages Nadia to live her life. She’s ready to die. Damon is impressed by her selfless act, because apparently Damon doesn’t learn.
Neither does Elena. She takes a moment alone with Katherine, who hates her and has repeatedly made her life hell, to FORGIVE HER. Because she’s just that convinced of her own good nature. Give it up, Elena, you’re a vampire. Kissing ass is for humans. Anyway, Katherine grabs Elena’s head and chants the Traveler spell and STEALS HER BODY. She wakes up and checks herself out in the mirror and practices being Elena Gilbert, but quickly seems bored by it. Nadia calls to ask if everything went as planned, and HELL YES it did.
The Bad Stuff:
KLAUS AND REBEKAH?! Really? Rebekah tags along with Klaus, who apparently only came to gloat over Katherine’s impending death? She saves Matt, which is convenient as he’s running out of air and Caroline is too busy avoiding her feelings for Klaus to properly look for him. I hated this part. First of all, with all of the shit going down in New Orleans, the odds of Klaus wasting time just to check on Katherine’s death are NOT GOOD. Secondly, after all of the tender moments and genuine feeling generated between Klaus and Caroline, their story ends with a tawdry romp in the woods if he agrees to go away forever? Ugh. I was hoping that eventually Caroline would go to New Orleans, maybe when TVD ended, and meet Klaus and there would be feeling and meaning and something real. Instead we got shame sex in the woods. HATE.
The scene at the end where a bunch of dead people pop up because Jeremy can see ghosts and Bonnie is the anchor to the other side was sort of annoying. Either BRING ALARIC BACK or let him rest in peace, but quit fucking with us. Nobody cares about Vicki except Matt, and since no one cares about Matt it was sort of a filler moment. Or maybe everyone was supposed to be so distracted seeing their dead friends that no one noticed Katherine body-swapped with Elena? Don’t know, don’t care.
Thoughts:
Of course Katherine Pierce wasn’t going to go quietly. As Stefan pointed out, she’s KATHERINE FUCKING PIERCE. She’s not going to be bested by death. She’s going to fuck over as many people as she has to to save her own ass. I love that she’s so evil, yet so likable. Imagine the shenanigans she’s going to pull being back in a healthy vampire body. Next week can’t come soon enough.

The Originals: One Sneaky Witch (S1: E11)
Very Nice:
Davina vomiting dirt was graphic and wonderful.
The realization that they had to finish The Harvest. There were no good choices for Davina, which seemed realistic to me. She escaped death only to be overwhelmed by power she didn’t understand and couldn’t control. She ran, and why not? Being sixteen and knowing that you have to have your throat cut and die or cause the destruction of an entire city and all its people is pretty heavy stuff.
I like Marcel a lot more for trying to protect her, for damning the potential consequences and trying to keep her safe. He loved her enough to put her well being before his own, which is something we’ve never seen from Klaus.
Uh oh: someone already consecrated Celeste’s bones, and absorbed the power, and therefore they need the remains of another powerful witch to turn Sophie Devereaux into an elder so she can complete the ritual. Good thing Klaus has been carting Esther around in a coffin.
I loved the scene where they stand outside of the manor, consecrating Esther’s bones, and as they take turns cutting their palms Klaus says, “Always and forever.” But instead of being a comforting promise it’s more of a threat.
As it turns out, Sabine is one evil bitch, otherwise known as CELESTE DUBOIS. The resurrection failed, apparently because she stopped the earth from absorbing the power that leaked out of Davina when she was killed. Oh, and she makes some remark about being called Sabine for an entire year (which I’m guessing is when Sabine became Celeste) and would her flunkies please call her by her real name. Oh, and she took the power from the dead girls into herself, which sort of undermines the “no witch can hold that much power” story line, but whatever we’re going with it because Celeste with Sabine’s face promises to be a WICKED ENEMY for the Originals.
Not So Very Nice:
Davina died. Marcel was devastated, and I was kind of amazed. I think Sophie Devereaux was very convincing and we all believed the girls would come back and maybe not live happily ever after (the trauma of having one’s throat cut by a trusted friend would probably mean lots of therapy), but they would be living. Instead, Sophie sobbed and the vampires looked disappointed and everyone took their ball and went home.
Hayley caused Elijah to break his promise to Celeste, and we all know how Elijah feels about keeping his word. Before the end of the episode Hayley’s gives a half-assed apology, basically accusing Elijah of living in the past with ghosts, and he gets so turned on he almost kisses her? I think not. It would take longer for Elijah to forgive Hayley.
Thoughts:
It’s going to be interesting to watch Elijah realize that his beloved Celeste is their enemy, and a damn good one at that. Or maybe Elijah will be so happy to have her back, in any form, that he’ll side with her instead of Klaus for a change? Rebekah is still working to thwart her brothers’ reign over New Orleans; she pays a visit to Sophie (who thankfully has Esther’s power because they are definitely going to need a witch) and they form a tentative partnership. However, Esther was the Original Witch, the most powerful ever, and it seems Sophie having her powers couldn’t stop Celeste from preventing the resurrection. We’ll see.

The Blacklist: Kickass Reddington Quotes (S1:E12) The Alchemist
“He’s killed women, children… infants if need be.” -RR to Lizzie about the latest Blacklist target, The Alchemist, but more importantly another example of the show’s seemingly repeated theme of helping women and children, which I believe will be a major (if not THE major) plot line that ties the show together, both with regards to Reddington’s past & what happened to his family, Lizzie’s past, Red’s interest in her, who mostly comprises Red’s Blacklist, what drives him and why, his motivation behind everything he does….even Dembe was a victim of human trafficking when he was younger and was saved by Reddington from The Courier.
“I’ve also included a couple of my favorite Richard Pryor records, I want to try to inject a little levity into the proceedings, I mean Julian looks so crabby all the time.” –RR regarding his Tibetan Singing Bowl gift containments
“If you find The Alchemist, you have a chance to resurrect the dead.” –RR to Lizzie
“Ahh, the Germans…. despite the headlines, they’re still the best at keeping an eye on their fellow man.” –RR to researcher
The TV Times is excited to announce the addition of coverage for the new Michael Bay-produced big-budget, pirate-themed TV series Black Sails. Black Sails is not only loosely based on Treasure Island, but has already been renewed for a second season, before the pilot episode has even aired yet (AIRING TONIGHT ON STARZ!!) thus indicating a huge amount of anticipation that we should all be expecting the show to be pretty damned good.
Tune in & check it out and then check back with us for our take on the Pilot episode in a couple days!!

The Blacklist: Frederick Barnes vs. The Good Samaritan
I’ve been toying with the thought of writing an article comparing sympathizing more with the Good Samaritan than with Frederick Barnes, considering both of them committed their crimes out of some variation of vindication of someone who needed intervening help.
It’s not because Frederick killed more people in his quest to find a cure for his son’s disease whereas the Good Samaritan only inflicted the abuse received by their abusers ON their abusers…there’s something there that’s…. deeper that I can’t seem to put my finger on with regards to why I backed the Good Samaritan’s cause moreso than Frederick Barnes’.
Anyone else have any thoughts on this and do you think I should do an article on the subject?
