Elijah follows Klaus to New Orleans, a place they once lived very happily as a family, because like all of Klaus’s unfortunate siblings his loyalty overbalances his survival instinct.
The witches in the French Quarter, led by Sophie Deveraux, want Klaus to help them handle their biggest problem, Marcel. He’s the most powerful vampire in New Orleans, with an army of loyal followers ready to jump when he says so. He forbids the witches in the Quarter to practice magic, which is a big deal because normally witches can give vampires aneurisms until they agree to behave themselves. He also won’t reveal the reason he has so much power over them.
Klaus, of course, is envious. When he left Marcel was his protege, and now it seems Marcel has everything Klaus has been working for but not been able to achieve. Klaus immediately wants it all, and feels entitled to it since he helped build New Orleans and considers it his city anyway.
Elijah meets with the witches, including Sophie who has just lost her sister because Marcel caught her practicing magic and murdered her to make an example of her. Sophie tells Elijah they want the Originals to help them get rid of Marcel permanently, or else…they will kill Hayley and her unborn baby, who happens to belong to Klaus.
KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE, WITCHES. Klaus might care about his siblings (the jury is still out) but he certainly doesn’t care about the by-product of a one night stand with Hayley. Or maybe they do know their audience, because Elijah seems pretty intrigued by the idea of an Original offspring. He agrees to try and persuade Klaus to help their cause, and brings Sophie her sister’s body to prove his sincerity (Marcel was holding it hostage.)
Klaus, of course, insists he doesn’t give a damn. He gets into an argument with Marcel over which of them is really the boss, and ends up losing his temper and biting one of Marcel’s minions. He tells everyone the guy will end up dying because of his werewolf side and goes on his merry way.
Elijah keeps calling Rebekah to convince her to join them in New Orleans, but she isn’t having it. She reminds him of all the times Klaus has daggered and boxed them and insists that she wants no part of his troubles.
Elijah takes Klaus to the cemetery where the witches are holding Hayley captive and explains the situation. Klaus denies the baby is his, but Sophie says the reason Jane Anne died was because she did a spell to prove the baby was Klaus’s. It’s a fact. They speculate that maybe because Klaus is a werewolf he can have babies, even though vampires have never been able to being dead and all.
Elijah wants to kill Marcel right away, but for mysterious reasons the witches insist he not be killed. They want him gone but not dead. Klaus tells them all to go to hell and storms off in a huff.
Elijah finds Klaus and tries to persuade him that this baby is what has been missing from their lives. The baby can make them all a family again, and they can start over in the city they love so much, and live happily ever after. Klaus remains skeptical.
Back at the cemetery Sophie cuts herself, and Hayley also gets cut. This proves they are linked, and anything that happens to Sophie happens to Hayley. Sophie plans to use this as further leverage to gain cooperation from the Originals.
Elijah is still determined to get Klaus on board, and they end up brawling. As Klaus beats him, Elijah confesses that he feels guilty for helping Mikael bind Klaus all those years ago, and promises to always choose his family in the future.
Klaus eventually agrees to help get rid of Marcel, but only because he wants to be king of the city. That’s good enough for Elijah, who seems to be developing protective feelings for Hayley and his niece/nephew.
Klaus goes to visit Marcel and his dying minion and provides his blood as the cure, which puts a look on Marcel’s face that I wasn’t entirely comfortable with. PAY ATTENTION, Klaus. Your blood is a hot commodity.
Meanwhile, Marcel goes into a room where a very young girl is playing with the flame of a candle. She is identified as Davina and states she will never hurt Marcel, and we’re left wondering how the hell Marcel got an impressionable young witch to do his bidding.
Klaus and Elijah are in their new home in New Orleans, discussing strategy and whatnot, when Klaus DAGGERS ELIJAH THROUGH THE HEART (how much of the white oak ash is left?) and starts explaining as Elijah dies that family isn’t power, it’s weakness, and that he wants to win the war and Elijah would only be a liability for him. WHAT THE FUCK, Klaus!??!
I mean, I guess he DOES love his brother? There seemed to be something in that guilty ramble about wanting to keep him safe, but poor Elijah, daggered and boxed again. Hopefully not for long!
Am I the only one who thinks Kol was killed off too soon? He would have been an AWESOME, sexy, trouble-making addition to The Originals.

NOTE: The Originals will now be on Tuesday nights.
