Since the latest episode of Hostages has already aired, I’m going to summarize what happened last week when I was sick & watched ZERO TV…. I apologize for the appearing “slackerism” however I had (literally) 47 To Do’s involving my work outside of TV Writing that had to take priority this week.
So last week’s episode on 9/30, to show the Doctor that he’s in charge, the show opened with Doctor Sanders being handed a great serving of “I’m the fuck in charge, bitch” by Agent Carlisle, by way of bringing her to her family who are all tied up & blindfolded & being told she has to decide which one dies. Obviously, she’s not going to choose either of her kids, so Agent Carlisle says not only does she have to choose - she has to do the killing and puts the gun in her hand. She points it at her husband only to quickly swing it towards Carlisle while pulling trigger only - uh, duh - he’s not stupid enough to hand a loaded gun over to her, but did take great pleasure in pointing out that she is, in fact, capable of killing. He takes the gun from her and fires, and for a brief moment you think he shot her husband, but he did not. We find out a few minutes later that sometimes just the FEAR that he did would be enough to motivate her hopefully.

To keep track of the family, who for the next couple weeks have to pretend everything is normal and they are not actually being held hostage, he has Doctor Sanders insert a tracking device into each of her family members, and tells her that she doesn’t need one because he knows that just the fact that he’s in control of her family will prevent her from doing anything (further) stupid.
The chick in their gang is sending Josh-OOOOO-aaaaaa’s mystress texts posing as him, and takes him over there to visit her to “keep up appearances” that nothing is amiss. Turns out, the mystress is none other than Peyton from One Tree Hill, which probably means zero to most of you, but something I found pretty cool.

Josh-OOOOO-aaaaaa appears anything BUT “normal” during his visit with his mistress, sleeps with her and then abruptly leaves. (You totally know she got on FB with all her friends & was like “Oh no he di'in’t!!” for the rest of the night, right? You know, if this was REAL.)
Doctor Sanders has to take a lie detector test:

But Agent Carlisle coaches her about how to get past it and she does, however her nurse friend that administered the blood thinners unknowingly to the POTUS in the Pilot Episode is freaking out, they’ve questioned her several times, they’re accusing her of being a terrorist, etc.., and she doesn’t know what to do. Doc Sanders is later told by Agent Carlisle to try to persuade the nurse to cop to the “mistake” rather than have them accuse her of doing it intentionally, that it would be in her best interest, yada yada. The doc attempts to do this and is met with obvious confusion on the part of her friend and several-year colleague whom she knows would never normally make such an error.
Nurse Angela:

Doc Sanders finds a note on her desk from the nurse Angela later in the day that she needs a drink and will be at Such-n-Such bar if she wanted to join her.
Meanwhile, regarding the young teenage son and the drug dealer Niko? The kid tells the bad guy that’s in charge of him that he has to have $1200 to Niko by the following day, and asks that he be allowed to look in his dad’s room/bathroom for the cash he found in the first episode, The bad guy ends up looking for it on his behalf, and Agent Carlisle walks in on him in Josh-OOOOOO-aaaa’s bathroom holding a bottle of Vicodin. It’s then insinuated that this particular bad guy had a pain pill problem at one time. Foreshadowing methinks.
Doc Sanders goes to the bar Angela indicated in her note, only all that’s left at the bar is her glass of wine (the black bad guy “saved” her from an obnoxious admirer just before and it appears the two of them “hit it off” by her having left the bar with him.) But we know the truth, don’t we fellow viewers?
It doesn’t take long before the “Breaking News” report that Nurse Angela’s car was found abandoned, followed by the discovery of her body with a suicide note that she couldn’t live with herself having almost killed the POTUS and, just like that, Toni Trucks is out of a job.
When Doc Sanders confronts Agent Carlisle about Angela, she’s told “You failed to honor our agreement,” Carlisle tells her. “Angela’s death is on you.”
So what are “Hostage” viewers thinking about this 15 episode-only show so far anyway? Thoughts on where you think the plot is headed welcome!!
Have a tutti fuckin frutti day,
-BZ
