Notable Moments from the Episode:
Elena’s pathetic attempts to get Aaron to help her question Doctor Maxfield earned her a shot of vervane in the throat and a quick trip to the same dungeon Damon was locked in. Good work, girl spy.
We learn that not only was Damon tortured by the original Whitmore, he had a friend named Enzo.

Enzo and Damon hatched a plan to give the majority of their meager rations to one, while providing the other with just enough to keep him from desiccating. At the annual Whitmore party (which Enzo had the pleasure of experiencing, as he was in captivity for five years when Damon met him) the stronger of the two would break free and massacre the evil scientist and friends. After a quick rock-paper-scissors game (you would think Enzo would volunteer to be their rescuer, since he had already spent FIVE YEARS getting his eyeballs sliced open) it was decided that Damon would be the hero. HAHAHA. Poor Enzo, he didn’t know Damon at all. Come game time, Damon broke free but the mansion started burning up and rather than risking his own ass to save Enzo, who showed him nothing but kindness, Damon switched off his humanity and swaggered away.
We learned that Enzo and Damon cooked up revenge fantasies that, unfortunately for Aaron, explain the high number of unusual deaths in his family. After a quick Q&A, in which he accuses Elena of murdering everyone he knows, Damon confesses without regret that HE was the culprit. Elena is horrified to discover that Damon was STILL KILLING PEOPLE while they were together!?! Ugh, Elena. Get a clue. Damon went night-night after a bullet to the brain.

Elena woke up on a gurney, restrained, with GUESS WHO for company? ENZO. Yeah, so he didn’t die in the fire and Damon should be scared. And I think we’ve discovered the identity of the mysterious Augustine Vampire.
Other fun thing that happened: KATHERINE AND STEFAN GOT IT ON. We can thank Caroline, who had the horrendous idea of locking Stefan back in the safe. Katherine shimmied in with him and bluntly told him his problem was never the safe, but Elena choosing Damon. She told him to get over it and offered herself up instead. Stefan happily accepted.
Sadly, next week will probably be all about Stefan trying to save Elena. He should throw in the towel there, and focus on saving Katherine.
