Sleepy Hollow: The Vessel (S1: E11)

I’m pleased to report that Sleepy Hollow, which was going bad before the break, came back with an action-packed episode I really loved. Ancitif, an ancient demon who enjoys hopping from body to body possessing people, goes after Irving’s daughter Macey. Irving is understandably distraught, and plans to stick Macey & Cynthia in a safe house. Crane obsesses over figuring out the meaning of Moloch’s visit, while Mills takes the impending apocalypse in stride, focusing instead on getting Crane to dress appropriately for the times.

High points from the episode:

Jenny spent a couple of years being possessed by Ancitif, complete with video. While she was possessed, the demon did his best to convince her she wanted to kill Abbie. After Corbin rescues her, she’s so afraid of hurting Abbie that she deliberately breaks the law and lands herself in jail…over and over. Aww.

Irving tries to give Ancitif Washington’s Bible, which is what he really wants. I think this is highly realistic, and applaud the writers for realizing that apocalypse or not, a parent would hand over the keys to the universe to save their child’s life. This decision made Irving more real to me, and more enjoyable as a character.

Morales may have died, I’m not sure. This pleases me because on top of Morales being annoying and whiny, Abbie has more important things to worry about than coffee with a conflicted ex.

I assumed that bringing the demon forth or whatever would mean he took his own freaky form, and then Mills and Crane would have to do battle to kill him. (I watched many years of Buffy, which is still one of the greatest shows EVER to be on television.) Instead, he became a swirly green glow and got sucked into the magic lantern, which actually made more sense to me – a nice surprise.

Points from the episode that make me yell BULLSHIT at the television (and scare the dog):

Irving knows Ancitif jumps from body to body. Irving knows Ancitif was in the police station, because he saw one of his officers possessed and received a phone call. HOWEVER, he still uses two of his cops – from the station – to help him protect Macey and Cynthia at the safe house? Memo to the writers: as Captain, Irving should be reasonably intelligent. Just an idea.

Crane is STILL refusing to wear modern attire? How long is he going to walk around in the gross, outdated clothes he died in? And stayed buried in for several years? We know Crane is a transplant from the Revolutionary War, now PLEASE get him some jeans and a blazer. Cripes.
